Freedom in Technology

Open Source, Free Software, and Electronic Freedom

As a CISSP (Certified Information Security Systems Specialist) and long time expert on the open source software movement, I fully commit to not ever support legislation which limits the ability of free and open technology to be available to the public. I will not support the US Congress imposing government wide standards to suppress open source software and open source technologies.

I have spent the past several years as the President of a small information security consulting firm. I have been able to minimize my costs by using open source technology to power my company's networks and systems. I have used open source software in the practice of my business. I fully understand the need for community driven technology which is robust, stable, and reliable. Our government should not regulate intellectual creativity by supporting the commercial software lobby in our country in an effort to eliminate any and all competition against free technology through bogus patents and frivolous judgements.

If elected, I will sponsor Freedom in Technology Act for the sole purpose of protecting open source software technologies, intellectual creativity, and electronic freedom.

A brief discussion about Open Source Technology:

Open source technology is software that has been developed by a community of non-compensated programmers working collectively to deliver robust software products over the Internet. It is always free and many of today's most powerful Internet applications and technologies operate using open source technology. Nearly 65% of all Internet Web Servers are based on open source technology and nearly 85% of internet Domain Name Servers (DNS) are based on open source technology. The open source technology movement has significantly contributed to the rapid and stable growth of the Internet. The majority of open source applicationsa are more secure and less "hackable" than their commercial counterparts.
